We are dyers of yarn, turners of wood, makers of rugs and growers of elderberries in the quiet countryside of rural Geauga County, Ohio
Elderberry Marsh was born out of our passion for beautiful, luxurious fiber, the graceful, elegant grain in fine wood and an appreciation of hand crafted goods.
Andrea is the fiber lover. Looking for a way to pass the time when her children were small, knitting seemed like a portable craft that could easily be stowed into a bag to work on while waiting for another track meet/baseball game/football practice or scout meeting to start or end.
It turns out that knitting was the gateway craft to a full blown fiber addiction. Rug hooking, spinning, dyeing fiber, and owning sheep and goats soon followed.
John's addiction is wood turnning.
About 20 years ago, he bought a lathe, having never turned a piece of wood in his life. But he hauled that lathe home and started turning wood. He is totally self-taught by the stubborn trial and error method.
Now, he plays in a 2,500 square foot wood shop on our farm in rural Northeast Ohio, an endless supply of wood at his doorstep. And Andrea spins, dyes, hooks and knits in a light-filled atrium on the farm ... both always wondering if perhaps there couldn't be a few more hours in every day because there's always more fiber to play with or wood to turn.
In addition to our wood and fiber goods, Elderberry Marsh offers beautiful, handcrafted goods from other artisan makers throughout the country.
